De's Visit

Our buddy De came for a springtime visit and met Tate for the first time. De, a seasoned uncle, knew just what a little boy wants to play with - his wristwatch! In addition to slobbering on his timepiece, Tate showed De his love for oatmeal cereal and his newly acquired sitting abilities. And of course, he had to wear his favorite Jumbo gear!

Rah, rah, rice cereal

Tate tasted his first bites of "solid" food last weekend, chowing down on yummy rice cereal. Well, given his face when he took his first bite, I'm not sure I can really call it delicious. He seemed surprised by the taste (although loyal readers know from his photos that surprised is one of his signature facial expressions!) and probably spit more out than actually went down. Hang in there buddy, only two weeks of plain cereal and then we can spice it up with crazy vegetables. Wahoo - carrots and sweet potatoes are coming next!

6 Month Birthday

Happy 6 Month Birthday Tate!
It's amazing to look back at the pictures from October 12th and compare them to the little boy in front of us today.

While four more vaccination shots at his Doctor's appointment probably isn't what he had in mind to celebrate, good news is on the horizon -- starting Saturday he will get his first bites of food. Judging by the way he's been sizing us up lately when we're eating, he's going to like this. Next stop -- the highchair!

Hippity Hop, Happy Easter

For Tate's first Easter, I purchased a copy of my favorite Easter book, The Country Bunny and the Little Golden Shoes. It is the story of a country mother bunny of 21 little bunnies who is selected as one of five Easter Rabbits. While she is out delivering Easter eggs around the world on Easter eve, her little bunnies are sweeping the cottage, cooking dinner, mending her clothes, and doing other chores (I am hoping Tate might have picked up on this theme). Tate and I had to read it in three installments since his new passion is eating books rather than listening to them. As Grandpa Norm says, he is a "voracious reader"!

We enjoyed a delicious brunch at Chrissy and Chris house and Tate got to meet a new little buddy, Hans. I look forward to next year when my little bunny can participate in Easter egg hunts!

First Seder

As an interfaith household, we're planning on exposing Tate to different religious holidays. Last week was the celebration of Passover. I'll leave it to the good folks at Wikipedia to explain the history and rituals of the holiday. To mark the occasion, Grandma Barb, Grandpa Norm, and Aunt Jenny flew into town and joined Josh, Rosy, Rachel, Tate, and I for a Seder. Tate looked dapper in his nice clothes and handmade vest from Grandma Barb and was perfectly behaved as Grandpa Norm whipped through the Seder in record time.

Party in my crib!

Tate hasn't seen an episode of MTV Cribs yet, but he already knows how to have fun in one. Lately when we put him to bed in one corner of his crib, we will find him at the opposite end when he wakes up. He loves to roll around in the crib and sleep on his belly. Sometimes when I walk in his room I get a glimpse of either some toes kicking in the air or two little eyes peeping over the bumper, as seen here.
